Carfax / AutoCheck buttons on vehicle pages
Show a per-VIN Carfax or AutoCheck vehicle-history report button on every storefront vehicle page.
Add a "Show me the CARFAX®" or "AutoCheck® Vehicle History" button to every vehicle page on your storefront. Each button opens the report for that car's VIN.
The controls live in the Vehicle history reports card on the main Website page (under the Content & trust section) — there's no separate sub-page.
You must be an active subscriber to use these buttons. Carfax needs a Carfax Advantage account; AutoCheck needs an AutoCheck members account. We only build the report link from the details you enter — we do not buy or supply the reports.
Turn on the Carfax button
You need your Carfax partner code (also called a "comp code"). Find it in your Carfax dealer dashboard or ask your Carfax rep.
- Go to Website in the dashboard and find the Vehicle history reports card.
- Turn on the Carfax switch.
- In Carfax partner code, enter your code (for example
DLR_3). It can be letters, numbers, and underscores, 2–16 characters. - Check the preview link that appears under the field — it shows the exact report URL we will build.
- Click Save vehicle history.
Each car's button links to carfax.com/VehicleHistory/p/Report.cfx?partner=<your code>&vin=<the car's VIN>. The actual report still comes from Carfax — we just hand them your code and the VIN.
Turn on the AutoCheck button
AutoCheck does not use a partner code. Instead you generate a free report link ("FreeLink") in your AutoCheck members portal, then paste it here with the VIN replaced by a placeholder.
- In your AutoCheck members portal, generate a free report link ("FreeLink").
- Copy that link, then replace the VIN in it with
{VIN}(those exact braces, case does not matter). - Back in the Vehicle history reports card, turn on the AutoCheck switch.
- Paste the link into AutoCheck report link — for example
https://www.autocheck.com/...?vin={VIN}. - Click Save vehicle history.
The AutoCheck link must be an https link on an autocheck.com address and must contain the {VIN} placeholder. If any of those are missing, the save is rejected with "Paste a valid AutoCheck https link that includes ". This guard stops a stray paste from turning the button into an off-site link.
How it looks to shoppers
- On each vehicle page, a small Vehicle history section appears right below the price card.
- It shows whichever buttons you turned on — Carfax, AutoCheck, or both.
- Each button opens the report for that exact car's VIN in a new tab.
- If you turned a provider off (or did not enter its details), that button does not show. If neither resolves, the whole section is hidden.
Turn a button off
- Open the Vehicle history reports card.
- Turn off the Carfax or AutoCheck switch (or clear the field below it).
- Click Save vehicle history.
Clearing a provider's field disconnects that provider — the button stops showing on your storefront.
FAQ
Can I turn on a button without entering the code or link?
No. If you flip the Carfax switch on without a partner code, the save is rejected with "Add your Carfax partner code to turn on the Carfax button." Same for AutoCheck — you must paste a valid link first.
A car has no button. Why?
The button is built from the car's VIN. If a vehicle has no VIN on its record, no history button can be generated for it. Add the VIN to that vehicle, and the button appears.
Where do I find my Carfax partner code?
It is in your Carfax dealer dashboard, sometimes labeled "comp code." If you cannot find it, ask your Carfax representative. It is not the same thing as your login.
Why does AutoCheck need a pasted link but Carfax just needs a code?
Carfax has a standard partner-code report URL, so we can build the link from your code. AutoCheck's free per-VIN link is generated in your members portal and carries your own credentials, so there is no clean code-based URL — you paste the link and we swap in each car's VIN.
Do these reports cost me money?
That depends on your Carfax / AutoCheck plan, not on AutoDealer.io. We only render the link. Buyers viewing reports counts against your provider subscription, so use whatever your contract allows.
Who can change these settings?
Only an Owner or Manager. Salespeople do not see the save action.
